This one-day intensive conference, hosted by the SBH Critical Care service, is designed to bridge the gap between scientific research and bedside clinical practice. Attendees will explore how to cultivate a culture of evidence-based care, navigate clinical academic career pathways, and overcome the practical barriers to research implementation. Featuring expert insights from the NIHR and RCN, the event culminates in the launch of a new Research Mentorship Programme and a moderated poster session showcasing real-world clinical case studies.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of modern medicine, the transition from "bench to bedside" is critical for improving patient outcomes. This conference provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive roadmap for embedding research into everyday clinical practice.
The program begins by establishing the foundational importance of evidence-based care, using the St Bartholomew’s Hospital (SBH) experience as a primary case study. Participants will learn what it means to be a "Research Champion," identifying the advantages and challenges of leading change within a clinical setting.
Translational Medicine: Real-world case studies demonstrating how research translation directly improves patient outcomes (including specialized sessions like "Relaxed K+").
Academic Pathways: A dedicated look at the PhD and clinical academic journey, offering first-hand lessons from early-career researchers.
Sustainability & Mentorship: A forward-looking afternoon session focused on funding models, institutional support, and the official launch of the Research Mentorship Programme.
Networking & Engagement: Moderated poster presentations providing a platform for clinicians to share their work and engage with peers from the NIHR and RCN.
Whether you are an aspiring researcher, a seasoned clinician, or a healthcare leader, this conference offers the tools and networks necessary to sustain research engagement and build a more resilient, evidence-driven workforce.
